The Persecution and Slaughter Of Iraqi Christians By the Terrorists Of ISIS
People often ask: How could the Holocaust have happened? Why didn’t people say or do anything?
What they really mean is: If it happened today, would I say or do anything?
Well, it is happening today. It is smaller in scale, but small horrors tend to mushroom while people stand by and express appropriate disapproval. And I am doing the only thing I can, which is to call attention to it through art. I am not equal to the task: This nightmare requires the macabre genius of Bosch or Brueghel. But they are not available, so I’m your guy.
The 21st Century is under attack by the 8th Century. It’s as simple as that. Like all primitives, the creatures of ISIS seek only to destroy what they cannot understand. Today it is Christians they despise, and their goal is to slaughter every one of them. Needless to say, their love for the Jews is no greater. Even other Muslims—the ones who do not share their insanity—fall prey to their bloody fanaticism. Churches and mosques, some of incalculable artistic and historical value, light the night skies as ISIS obliterates everything that threatens its absolute supremacy.
Crucifixions, shootings, decapitations, medieval tortures—these are occurring ‘round the clock with little notice from the media. Maybe the story isn’t sexy enough. Who knows?
I looked through countless photos of ISIS atrocities, seeking ideas for my picture. Probably the most disturbing was that of a once-pretty Iraqi girl, tied to a bed for sexual use and torture, who had finally been choked to death when a huge wooden crucifix was shoved down her throat.
You’ll note that the crucified man below the ISIS flag is wearing an Arabic symbol. This is the letter “nun,” which begins the word “Nazarene.” As Jews of the Nazi era were forced to identify themselves with stars of David, the Christians of Iraq must display this symbol to declare themselves servants of Jesus Christ, the Nazarene. According to Islamic law, these infidels are permitted to ransom their lives by paying a tax to their Islamic masters. But ISIS has little respect for this law, slaughtering their helpless enemies whether they pay or not.
There, I’ve done what I needed to do. But there’s plenty more to tell, if Bosch or Brueghel show up.
I can’t really add anything meaningful to this other than to say thank you.
